BacVax — The Alternative
to Antibiotics
to Antibiotics
Antibiotics are currently the main defense against bacterial infections, but every treatment with antibiotics has unintended consequences. First, antibiotic-resistant mutants of the bacteria targeted by treatment may be selected. Second, the by-stander bacteria, for example in the GI tract, are also exposed to antibiotics and may become resistant. Third, the microbiome is significantly disturbed by antibiotics, and we continue to learn how important the microbiome is for general health.
Bacterial Vaccine
Using vaccines, we can help to further protect from evolving bacteria, both on a large scale and for the individual. Using a bacterial vaccine as an alternative to frequent antibiotic use is a far safer long-term approach
